Do you require a physician referral?
No. Anyone can refer a child to the Child Development Centre - parents, grandparents, aunts, early childhood educators, doctors, nurses and others. We ask if parents aren't referring their child directly, that the parents be informed of the referral. You can fill out a form at cdcyukon.ca/referral, call 867-456-8182 or email info@cdcyukon.ca.
How much do you charge?
There is no charge for services we provide. Are services are free.
Do you have a wait list?
Some services do have a wait list; however, even if you are waiting we have supports available while you wait. The best approach is to fill out a referral form. We’ll have a conversation and a first-visit with you and your child. We can discuss what supports are available now, and how we can support you if you have to wait.
How long does it take to hear back once I fill out a referral form?
Once you submit a referral form, we aim to contact you within 2 weeks. If it has been more than 2 weeks, please reach out to us at 867-456-8182 or info@cdcyukon.ca.
Can my child still receive services in kindergarten?
We support children from newborn up until kindergarten entry. Once your child starts kindergarten, they can no longer receive CDC services. School aged children can access services from other organizations such as Yukon Education, Student Support Services (if attending school), Disability Services or private therapists.
I live in a community. When I am visiting Whitehorse can my child be seen at your Whitehorse location?
Yes, if you are from a community and visiting Whitehorse, connect with your therapist or Family Partner and they will try to schedule you for an appointment while you are in Whitehorse.
I have questions about Autism. Can I sign my child up for an assessment?
We do offer Autism diagnostic assessments. Please ask your child’s therapist about making a referral. If you are not already involved with CDC, you can ask about autism assessments during your first visit. There is a waitlist for diagnostic assessments; however, while you are waiting your child can receive therapy and support.
Do you travel to every Yukon community? How often?
We travel from Whitehorse to all Yukon communities (as well as Atlin, BC) to see children and families. Teams of therapists generally visit communities monthly or every second month. Visit lengths range from one day in nearby communities, to 3-5 days in communities located farther away. Virtual visits may be available between trips to your community.
